Founded in 1924 Hoffman is still a leading producer of screenprints and Bali batiks. Rube Hoffman, the founder was recognised by the Textile Association of Los Angeles for his efforts in co-founding and developing the trade organization. Rube’s son Philip was a world renowned surfer, and together with his brother Walter introduced fabrics for the surfing community – the Aloha shirt worn by Tom Selleck in the TV series Magnum PI was made from Hoffman fabric. These ‘Bali batiks’ were designed in the US and manufactured in Bali.
Hoffman has long been regarded as “quilting’s original Bali batik maker”, and their designs are still “the first, the finest and the favourite” for quilters all over the world.
