About Us Quilt Direct is one of the largest and longest established dedicated Quilting Mail Order companies in the UK. The company is owned by Katherine Letherby. From a family of needlewomen her childhood was spent surrounded by fabrics and threads, she still has her first embroidery aged 5. Katherine's passion for machine sewing was ignited when she sat down at her first Bernina sewing machine in 1986. Along side her life long love of horses she opened and ran Moor Silks & Quilts in Tavistock and Thornbury Bristol and then purchased Quilt Direct in 2003. Now she and her husband Graham run Quilt Direct from their old Devon farmhouse high up on beautiful Dartmoor. Katherine still finds time for teaching and is a respected distributor of Bernina sewing machines.

Credit Card Security The SSL (secure socket layer) protocol is the web standard for encrypting communications between users and web sites. Data sent via an SSL connection is protected by encryption, a mechanism that prevents eavesdropping and tampering with any transmitted data.
SSL provides businesses and consumers with the confidence that private data sent to a web site, such as credit card numbers, are kept confidential. Web server certificates are required to initialize an SSL session. Before you are asked for credit card details the site switches over to the secure line. At this point the URL shown in the address bar will start with "https://" rather than "http://" and you should see a closed padlock in your browsers status bar (depending on your browser).
